Woodland Lake Minnetonka

Woodland Lake Minnetonka

Wooded lots, quiet residential character, and abundant natural beauty.

Welcome to Woodland Lake

Woodland, Minnesota, is a small, picturesque city in Hennepin County located along the southeastern shore of Lake Minnetonka, known for its wooded lots, quiet residential character, and abundant natural beauty. With a population of under 500, Woodland features winding, tree-lined streets and lakeshore properties that offer a serene, close-to-water lifestyle while still being not far from the Twin Cities metro area.

The history of Woodland dates back to the mid-19th century, with the first recorded visitors arriving around 1853 and the first home built in 1857. Initially a summer retreat with numerous cottages along the lake, the community evolved through the early 20th century into a year-round residential area as cottages were winterized or replaced with permanent homes. In December 1948 residents of the Maplewoods area and the Groveland Homeowners Association formally incorporated as the Village of Maplewoods, renamed Woodland in 1949 to reflect both founding areas (“wood” from Maplewoods and “land” from Groveland), with the goal of preserving the area’s peaceful, wooded character.
