North Loop Minneapolis

North Loop Minneapolis

Blends preserved industrial architecture with modern developments.

Welcome to The North Loop

The North Loop is a dynamic, historic neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota, just northwest of downtown and along the Mississippi River, known today for its vibrant mix of trendy restaurants, boutiques, loft apartments, nightlife, and urban parks that make it one of the city’s most walkable and sought‑after districts. Often called the Warehouse District, it blends preserved industrial architecture with modern development and attracts residents and visitors alike for its cultural energy and proximity to downtown and transit, like Target Field Station.

Historically, the North Loop began in the late 19th century as a bustling industrial and transportation hub anchored by rail yards, warehouses, and factories that supported Minneapolis’s growth as a milling and distribution center; many of these early warehouses are now part of the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. Over time the area declined as industry changed, but artists and creatives began moving into the old buildings in the 1980s, paving the way for broader redevelopment in the 1990s and 2000s that transformed the neighborhood into a lively residential and commercial center while retaining elements of its industrial past.
