The area’s history dates back to 1853, when settlers from New York established Excelsior as the first Euro-American settlement on Lake Minnetonka, laying out its lakeshore Commons for public use.
Incorporated as a village in 1877, Excelsior soon became a popular summer destination with luxury hotels, steamboat excursions, and later an amusement park that operated from 1925 to 1973, attracting big crowds and famous performers.
